BULAWAYO Athletics Board chairman, Manuel Mpofu is thrilled that the city is the venue for the first leg of the JM Busha 54 Triangular Series at White City Stadium on Saturday.

The second largest city in the country will on Saturday host the tracks and field championships with Mutare being next in April before the final leg takes place in Harare in June.

Mpofu declared the city’s readiness for competition where they were anticipating a number of seasoned athletes to attend.

“As Bab we are very excited to host the first leg of the JM Busha 54 Triangular Series in Bulawayo at White City Stadium. We are looking forward to a number of athletes competing in the first leg,’’ Mpofu said.

National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president, Tendai Tagara said they will use the JM Busha 54 Triangular Series to select athletes who will represent the country in international competitions. Tagara expressed his gratefulness to Joseph Busha for the sponsorship.

“We once more want to thank JM Busha for coming on board to assist athletics, you recall that he sponsors a marathon that is run in May.

These are Zimbabwean businesspeople who walk the talk,” Tagara said.

Busha, according to Tagara is someone who is keen to see Zimbabwean athletics get better at regional and continental level. The Naaz boss appealed to the business community to support the sport and not to just appear ahead of big events like the Olympics.

“He is a keen athlete who has a vision to see Zimbabwe as a strong nation in terms of athletics in the region and continent. We call upon business communities to come on board now rather than coming in the last year before Olympics. Let’s set the foundation now,” said Tagara.

Athletes seem to be taking the JM Busha 54 Triangular Series seriously with Harare clubs said to have already booked their accommodation in Bulawayo.
