WINNERS of the first women’s Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) beach series, A-Team, are on course of claiming a second gong after booking a place in the semi-finals of the Binga Sand Beach volleyball competition to be played today.

A-Team, a combination of Masvingo and Harare players will face Amazon of Harare while another side from the capital, AM Academy clash with Masvingo’s Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) 1 in the women’s semi-finals.
On their way to the last four of the tournament that had six women’s teams participating in the preliminary stages of the inaugural Binga Beach Volleyball competition, A-Team beat Amazon and GZU 1 by identical 2-0 scorelines. Amazon recovered from 0-2 defeat to AM Academy to clobber GZU 2 by a similar scoreline.  The semi-finals of the men and women’s side will be played today at the country’s natural beach.

“It’s been an exciting day for volleyball and obviously to the people of Binga who came in their numbers to support the sport. The men’s group games will be wrapped up tomorrow (today) morning before the women’s semi-finals,” said Mxolisi Ndlovu, the ZVA president.
Six women’s teams – Amazon, AM Academy 1 and 2, AM Academy 2, GZU 1 and 2 registered for the tourney.  The men’s competition had Mallins, AM Academy, Shallom of Victoria Falls, Bulawayo-based Luvac, More Fire and GZU.  — @ZililoR
