HIGHLANDERS are winding down their fundraiser that was aimed at raising funds to meet its running costs, with the club making an announcement that it received a total of US$6 410,70, R34 569,02 and ZWL85 460 over a three months period.

Contributions were made in July, August and September.  In July, Highlanders treasurer, Donald Ndebele and chairman Johnfat Sibanda appealed to the club’s members, supporters and well-wishers to bail out Amahlolanyama financially. At that time, Highlanders were struggling to pay salaries for players and staff. Funds raised through the initiative were meant to settle what the club owed to players and other employees.

Things have however changed for the better since the coming in of two sponsors. In August, Highlanders secured a deal with Utande who came in the cover salaries for players for six months in a deal worth ZWL3,6 million. Last month, Highlanders secured sponsorship from Sakunda Holdings who will pour in US$890 000 annually, to be paid out in local currency equivalent over the next three years.

The funds will cover salaries for players, signing on fees and administration costs. – Follow on Twitter @Mdawini_29
