Highlanders Royals 1-3 Platinum Queens

IT was yet another day to forget for Women Premier Soccer League debutants, Highlanders Royals as they were outwitted at home by Zvishavane-based Platinum Royals.

The match took place at Highlanders Sports Club in Bulawayo yesterday as the hosts searched for their second win of the campaign.

Platinum Royals, without the formidable Fortunate Nyoka had little to miss from her injury forced absence as Pamela Nkomo took matters into her own hands by scoring a hat-trick that gave the platinum miners a well-deserved win.

The Platinum Royals team looked like a well-oiled machine from the onset, as their fluid passing football was on display, reminiscent of what has become known as pure platinum play, as made popular by their male counterparts.

Highlanders Royals performance was nothing befitting the big name Highlanders is, as the ladies failed to master anything significant.

They had only two shots on target, one of them an expertly taken shot from range by Sisa Ndebele and then the consolation goal by 13-year-old substitute Nadya Mtshiya.

Highlanders Royals were all over the place but never looked to cause any harm. They were toothless so much so that Platinum goalkeeper, Angeline Mudambanuki spent the afternoon bored with little action to occupy her.
She spent most of the time encouraging her teammates.

It was a homecoming for former Bulawayo Chiefs’ player, Lauryn Mupasi albeit in a more defensive duty. Mighty Warriors’ Ennerty “Milito” Chemhere proved too hot to handle for the Bosso defence with her trickery on the wings. Royals had vice-captain Thobekile Mtambo to thank as she bailed out her team in defence on a number occasions.
