A BOTSWANA national who was part of a group that organised a LGBTI demonstration that spilled into the no-man’s land between the Botswana-Zimbabwe border is being sorted by authorities from the two countries.

Tefo Kevin Boitumelo from the Mmankgodi area in Botswana, was part of a group known as Legabibo that last month held a demonstration in the country advocating for gay rights.

However, the demonstration spilled into the no man’s territory which saw part of the group being arrested and charged with public violence and organising an illegal demonstration.

Boitumelo is however said to have evaded arrest and is now being sort after by authorities from both countries.

“Boitunelo and his colleagues organised this illegal demonstration which unfortunately spilled to the no man’s territory which saw authorities from Botswana and Zimbabwe joining forces to arrest the group as it was suspected they wanted to cross the border illegally and hold a similar demonstration in Zimbabwe.

“While the others were arrested Boitumelo managed to evade arrest but he was identified by his colleagues and is now on the police wanted list for both nations,” said a police source.

This publication managed to trace down some of Boitumelo’s friend in Mmankgodi, who told a different story.

“It is not true that the demonstration spilled to the no man’s territory these people just gathered in a peaceful manner to advocate for their rights. Now they are being targeted which is grossly unfair,” said the friend on condition of anonymity fearing victimisation.
