AFTER setting up camp in different cities across the country during the lifespan of their business, the proprietors of the Luna Park, Family Amusement Park, have named Bulawayo the nation’s liveliest city.

Having had to operate from Bulawayo for the past six months, the business owners have said the people of Bulawayo made their stay worthwhile. Luna Park is the only mobile leisure-ride centre in Zimbabwe with the operators moving to new places seasonally.

Family Amusement Park had committed to providing their services to Bulawayo since the Christmas period at the open space at the corner of Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue and Athlone Avenue. In an interview, Family Amusement Park managing director, Mr Witness Chihota said Bulawayo tops the list of beautiful and lovable places to be. He said this is one of the reasons why they dedicated themselves to camping in the city for over six months.

“We could not help but fall in love with the city as it was irresistible. Even the people in the city are welcoming and loving. They showed us so much generosity during the time of our stay which is why we decided to favour them and stay a bit longer,” said Mr Chihota.

Having come into the city for the December holidays, the Luna Park was flooded every day during that period, which was a huge boost to the business. Mr Chihota said judging from the numbers that flooded the Luna Park for that one month, it showed that the people of Bulawayo were fun loving.

“Since the time we arrived in Bulawayo last year, for every business day the Luna Park was always flooded. We then decided to extend our stay and at the same time advertise our presence, giving more time for the fun lovers and families to enjoy the rides and spend time with their families,” said Mr Chihota.

Established in the 1970s, the Luna Park has always been a favourite for many — from children to adults. With joy rides like jets, the Ferris wheel and the roller coaster, the Luna Park is definitely the go-to place for the whole family.  It is mostly popular during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) period in April.

Following its seven-month stint in the city, the Luna Park is finally leaving Bulawayo. Mr Chihota said they would not have left the city without bidding farewell. He said after taking time away from their families, and camping in Bulawayo for over six months, they were treated warmly as though they were family.

“We would like to extend our profound gratitude to the people of Bulawayo for their generosity and for treating us well in their home. Never was there a day where we complained or were mistreated by the locals since we came last year. All has been going well as if we are part of the people.

“Not only were we treated well but we have learnt a few things from the people of Bulawayo. We have learnt a lot about the people as well as their lifestyle. At first, when I came to Bulawayo I could not speak Ndebele but I have managed to pick some of the words bit by bit and now I can speak well,” said Mr Chihota.

He said words cannot express their gratitude for the support rendered to their business.

“We are departing on 4 June. We are taking this time to cater for all those who could not get the chance to come and enjoy the rides in the past few months. Also, those that have tickets that they have not used are more than welcome to come,” said Mr Chihota. – @Sagepapie14
