BULAWAYO United Residents Association (Bura) has expressed concern over the continued squabbling between councillors and city management saying this was having a negative effect on service delivery.

It was reported last week that councillors have initiated fresh attempts to oust the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube, from office despite offering an apology over the botched effort by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tinashe Kambarami to kick him out last month.

In an interview, Bura chairperson Mr Winos Dube said  residents  were worried that they are being led by people who were busy concentrating on fights rather than service delivery.

“We are greatly disappointed about the turnout of events at the city council because we expect the city fathers to be exemplary. The local authorities must take action to curb corruption and we want the perpetrators to be put before the law,” said Mr Dube.

He said the law must take its course.

“We have been talking with Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) about the misunderstanding between the Town Clerk and the Deputy Mayor which as residents we did not take lightly because to us we still do not see any cordial relations between management and the councillors,” he said.

Mr Dube said they were eagerly waiting for the results from the investigating team that was set by the Government to see what measures can be taken to address problems in the city.

“The Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said his hands are clean but corruption allegations are there in council and some people will certainly fall either among the management or councillors. The Government is serious about tackling corruption and no one is going to be spared if they are corrupt.”
