THE Confederation of African Football has moved the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which was meant to take place early next year in Cameroon to January 2022.

In one of the outcomes of the Caf executive committee meeting held via video call conference on Tuesday, the continent’s football governing body decided to shift Africa’s pinnacle competition to 2022. It is believed that the rainy weather in Cameroon in June/July remains a continuous feature for the Afcon not being held during that period.

The Caf leadership held a virtual meeting to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on African football and other related issues. Next year’s Afcon was meant to take place from 9 January to 6 February

Zimbabwe are second in group H for the next Afcon with four points secured one win and a draw. They are two points behind table topping Algeria who have a 100 percent winning record. Zimbabwe still have to face Algeria home and away, face Botswana away and take on Zambia at home.

The 2020 African Nations Championship, which was scheduled for Cameroon in April but had to be postponed because of Covid-19 has been rescheduled to take place in January 2021. Zimbabwe are one of the teams that qualified for the sixth edition of Chan.

Semifinals of the Caf Champions League will take place in Cameroon in September.

Raja Casablanca, Wydad Casablanca, Al Ahly and Zamalek will compete for a place in the final of the continent’s cream of the crop club competition, while the Confederation Cup will be hosted in Morocco. Pyramids, Horoya, RS Berkane and Hassania Agadir are the teams that had reached the last four of the continent’s second tier club competition.

This year’s Africa Women’s Cup, which was meant to take place from 23 November to 20 December in a country that was still to be decided, has been called off. Instead, Caf will launch a Women’s Champions League in 2021.
