FORMER MDC-T senior official and Kwekwe Central legislator Cde Blessing Chebundo, who recently rejoined the ruling party Zanu-PF, has praised First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa’s charity work she is undertaking across the country through her Angel of Hope Foundation.

This comes at a time when a number of MDC-A members who also benefitted from the programme in Kwekwe, praised the First Lady for not politicising her work. Amai Mnangagwa on Wednesday last week handed over 120 food hampers to the elderly, vulnerable children and the disabled at Kwekwe Queens Sports Club.

About 2 000 people are expected to benefit from the donations in Midlands as the First Lady seeks to avert hunger among the vulnerable members of the community.

Cde Chebundo, who rejoined the ruling Zanu-PF together with former Zvishavane senator, Cde Lillian Timveos last month, was part of the gathering and said he used to admire the works by the First Lady even during his days as an opposition member.

“I used to see the works done by Amai Mnangagwa even during my days in the opposition. Together with my wife, we are war veterans and I used to remind her that since we acquired independence as a nation, we have never had a First Lady in the calibre of Amai Mnangagwa,” said Cde Chebundo.

He described Amai Mnangagwa as a mother of the nation who gives to all without being political.

“I want to thank God for such a mother. I am not saying this because she is here with us, but it’s a gift that she was given by God and she is using it accordingly. She does not look at political background before donating, she just does give from the heart,” said Cde Chebundo.

About 18 members from the MDC-A were part of the beneficiaries on the day and they also hailed Amai Mnangagwa for being apolitical.

Speaking on behalf of the members, a longtime ally of Cde Chebundo, Mrs Virginia Muzhari expressed gratitude to the First Lady.

“I thank the First Lady for donating to children not on political lines but donating to her children regardless of political affiliation.

“Personally, I have a child who is mentally challenged and it has been a challenge for me to fend for him during this Covid-19 pandemic. But all thanks to Amai, and she has really shown that she is a mother of the nation not of a political party,” she said.
