MBIRA prodigy and songbird Chengeto Brown has announced her return to music with the release of the song Love You More, a joint taken off her upcoming album.
The song is the first taste of a new and repackaged Chengeto, as she dabbles in Amapiano, a genre whose popularity is spreading across the globe.
The last time Zimbabweans saw Chengeto, the daughter of Andy Brown and Chiwoniso Maraire, was five years ago when she, alongside famed sister Ammara, released the smash hit Whachu Want.
Since then, she went on a hiatus after giving birth to a baby boy, Zion, in August 2018. Over the past few weeks, the songbird has been teasing her return with social media posts indicating that fans should be ready for more music.
“Beautiful people, I’M BACKKK!!! This hiatus has been an interesting journey of introspection and I’m happy to say I’M READY… are you?!,” she posted on Facebook recently.
On Friday, she finally dropped the Amapiano powered Love You More, a dance tune she said was ultimately about the celebration of love.
“It’s been a journey. Thank you so much for your patience. Looking forward to you all dancing under the stars to this song that celebrates love??,” she said of the single.
One of 10 children born to the legendary Andy Brown, Chengeto’s career started after she finished high school in the United States where she was based for most of her childhood.
Her musical career began at a young age of about 12 when she first learnt how to play the guitar and the mbira.
