WILSON Dube who has officially retired from cycling after 57 years in the sport has been honoured by organisers of the Nedbank Tour de Great.

He was on Thursday morning at Zimplats Selous Plant made ambassador of the cycling event which promotes wellness and celebrates the economic and cultural significance of the Great Dyke a rich belt that starts in Matabeleland South and stretches up to Mashonaland East.

Dube was presented with a 2000kv solar system by Exide.

A tearful Dube said he was grateful for the present.

Dube was forced into retirement following a freak incident last year in which he fell off his bicycle at Siboza near Zvishavane.

Dube has cycled since 1967 when on 17 July he rode in Hwange for Shabanie Mine.
