A FORTNIGHT after Bulawayo hosted Amapiano royalty in the form of Major League DJz, the queen of the decks, DBN Gogo is once again set to reinforce the city’s reputation as the country’s party capital when she headlines a gig at the Umguza Yacht Club next Sunday.

While some might have expected a trickle of international acts to start performing in the city after the ban on nightclubs and pubs was lifted a few weeks ago by the government, Bulawayo seems to be attracting a deluge of artistes from one of the world’s fastest growing genres in recent weeks.

Before the Major League gig, Umguza Yatch Club also hosted Vigro Deep, a prodigy that has products some of the deep house music sub-genre’s biggest hits since its inception.

Now the DBN Gogo is set to make her debut in the City of Kings, only a few weeks after headlining sold out stadiums in the United Kingdom, were her colourful personality, dress sense and immaculately mixed sets set her apart from many Amapiano wheel-spinners.

Besides her much-lauded work on the decks, DBN has in the recent past grabbed headlines for her family ties. DBN Gogo (real name Mandisa Radebe) is the daughter of former South African minister in the presidency Jeff Radebe while businesswoman and mining magnate, Bridgette Radebe, is her stepmother.

Despite coming from a storied family, she has insisted that her rise owed nothing to her lineage. The starlet, who is fluent in French, was born and bred in the South Africa’s capital of groove, Durban, but also lived in Pretoria and Johannesburg before going through adventures in Europe.

Speaking to Sunday Life, Patrice Siyabonga of 93 Group said the show was a chance for Bulawayo fans to get a taste of a bona fide queen of the decks first hand.

“DBN Gogo is one of the most sought-after stars in South Africa right now and if you look at where she has performed recently, this is an artiste that is in demand. We encourage everyone to come early and enjoy a family friendly show because we shall be adhering to strict Covid-19 regulations so time-keeping and social distancing will be strictly enforced,” he said.
