THE Apostolic Faith and Act Church in Mbembesi together with the Doctor Mluleki Foundation yesterday hosted a career guidance workshop where youths were encouraged to focus on education and were given the platform to make career choices that speak to their strengths.

Even the academically ungifted were given hope as they were told to pursue different sporting disciplines and vocational skills. Pastor in the Ministry of Education at the Apostolic Faith and Act Church, Pastor Steffani David Stinta said the workshop was not only meant for intellectuals but also for the less academic to encourage them that careers cannot only be built out of education but from other activities like sports and entrepreneurial activities.

“The workshop intends to create relations with stakeholders so that they could be assisted in building a school which is in the process of being built. This will result in the shortening of distance for children in Kwambetha in Mbembesi who have been walking long distances to the nearest school.”

He said the workshop was also meant to encourage the youth and young people to go back to school so that they can acquire education. Pastor Stinta said the career guidance workshop was also an eye opener for the youth to know the requirements of certain areas of employment at institutions such as the Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM) and Bulawayo Polytechnic among others.

“The learners were advised on areas to study and courses to take. We have invited the schools in the area to come and join this workshop which was beneficial in shaping and guiding them on what to do when it comes to choosing careers. Also, the goal was to motivate school leavers to go back to school.”

Minister of all principals at the Apostolic Faith and Act Church, Pastor Mhlanguli Nxusani emphasised that their church was a place of recovery where children would get all the education they needed.

“This is a place of recovery where we want the community to benefit. We have a hall where events like weddings or other important events, organisations and even the community can get a place to do their work. This place is not meant for the church only but the whole community of Mbembesi,” said Pastor Nxusani.

Representing Ward 3 Councillor  Vethi Tshuma, Mr Felex Marongedza said the workshop was of great importance to the community of Mbembesi as it encouraged children and the youth to focus on their academic careers.

Chief Dumisani Ndondo of Mbembesi expressed his gratitude to the Doctor Mluleki Foundation for hosting the workshop which was beneficial to the community especially the youth to be emancipated and guided on how to achieve their goals.

“I would like to thank the Doctor Mluleki Foundation under the founder Dr Mluleki himself for coming here at Mbembesi to emancipate the community he comes from.

On behalf of the community, we are really appreciative of Dr Mluleki for showing that education is important and is the key to success through this workshop. We are thankful as our children and the youth have been encouraged to take education seriously in order to fulfil their dreams,” said the Chief.

“We would like to thank the Apostolic Faith and Act Church as well for this new school that is being built as it is going to help the children that have been walking long distances going to school.”

In attendance at the workshop were different stakeholders and organisations that include Zimbabwe School of Mines, Bulawayo Polytechnic, Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Service, Nyaradzo Funeral Policy, Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Education, Youth for Innovation Trust and Highlanders Football Club, among others.
