SOUTH Africa based Zimbabwean footballer, Gabriel Nyoni has urged fellow footballers not to be embarrassed to seek extra income away from the game.

Posting on Twitter on Tuesday, the Maritzburg United player said Zimbabwean footballers should not shy away from engaging in income generating projects since earnings from the world’s most beautiful game will never be adequate.

“As a Zim footballer whether playing in Zim or anywhere in the world, don’t be ashamed to do side hustles. Money from football will never sustain you for the rest of your life,’’ posted Nyoni.

While a number of footballers would be shy to seek extra income away from the game due to their perceived celebrity status, Nyoni said pride from a false fame will not sustain footballers’ families.

“Ego from false fame will never feed your family. Kana dziri shangu tengesa. Nxa kuyizimpahla thengisa futhi.”

Nyoni is said to be headed for an exit from Maritzburg United at the end of the Absa Premiership season, which concludes early next month after just one year with the Team of Choice. He has not feature in any of his team’s matches since the resumption of action on 16 August, an indication that he could be offloaded.

Away from football, Nyoni’s other passion is motivational speaking and writing. The 27-year old is a holder of a marketing degree from the National University of Science and Technology where he graduated in 2016 when he was still playing for Highlanders.
