DYNAMOS Football Club have had their Under-17 team disqualified from the Marvelous Nakamba invitation football tournament which heads into the semi-finals at White City Stadium today for using an over aged player.

The DeMbare juniors were the winners of their group yesterday, but will not proceed to the last four.

Highlanders, Majesa Academy and Njube Spurs were in the same group with Dynamos.

The disqualification of Dynamos means that Highlanders and Majesa Academy of Mutare head into the semi-finals from that particular group as winners and runners respectively.

“Group winners Dynamos were disqualified for using an over-aged player,’’ said tournament directorate Nduduzo Sibanda.

Ajax Hotspurs and Chicken Inn are also into the semi-finals.

Highlanders face Chicken Inn in the last four while Ajax go up against Majesa, with winners of the respective matches to head into the final.

England-based Aston Villa midfielder Nakamba is attending the inaugural edition of the tournament together with some renowned football scouts.

The initially planned maiden tournament could not take place in 2021 after the country went into lockdown following increased cases of Covid-19, but easing of restrictions has allowed the event to go ahead without any hitches this year.

The tournament has been hailed for giving young players from across the country a platform to showcase their talent.

It is the only tournament in recent of such a magnitude.
