IT took five minutes for Denver Mukamba to produce a moment of magic at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday, dribbling past a number of Hwange  players before threading a perfect pass to striker Tinashe Makanda who scored a priceless goal for Dynamos which gave the Glamour Boys a perfect start to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Makanda struck the ball with aplomb in the 70th minute, two minutes after coming in for Emmanuel Paga. The ginger-haired DeMbare forward found himself unmarked from the blind side and when Mukamba delivered a timely pass, he picked up his spot with his well taken shot leaving Hwange goalkeeper Nedrick Madeya rooted on his feet.

It was a deserved goal for DeMbare who were the dominant side as Hwange were restricted to their half the entire game. Mukamba’s moment of magic that led to the goal was five minutes after he had been introduced for an otherwise impressive Arthur Musiyiwa. Dynamos new coach Herbert Maruwa, happy with the win, said they need to work on their finishing.

“It was a good show by the boys. Getting three points on the first game and playing away is a good boost for the team. Teamwork got us these points and now we have to go and work on our finishing,” said Maruwa.

The match had its fair share of drama, which started building in the first-half when players engaged in pushing and shoving as Dynamos seemed to believe that the white towel belonging to Hwange goalkeeper Madeya was the reason for them not scoring.

At half-time, in a “moment of madness”, Dynamos manager Richard Chihoro stormed onto the pitch to pour some liquid at the Mpilo End goal that Hwange attacked for the second-half. The DeMbare technical official also sprinkled some white stuff at the goal. Before the start of the second-half, a Dynamos fan scaled over the fence to snatch the white towel belonging to Madeya in full view of the fans and police. As if that was not enough, when the second-half started, a fan behind Dynamos goalkeeper Taimon Mvula at the Soweto End jumped the fence and took Mvula’s pair of gloves which were in the net. Hwange’s coach Nation Dube, who rejoined the team before the start of the season, blamed the loss of attentiveness for their defeat.

“We need to go back and work on our transitions. If you look at the goal we conceded, it was a result of loss of concentration from the time we lost possession when we were in transition. Otherwise the boys, most of whom were playing the Premier League for the first time, gave a good fight,” Dube said.

Hwange played their home match in Bulawayo since their venue, Colliery Stadium has been deemed not fit to host PSL matches for now.
