TWO Zimbabweans have launched a construction and engineering company in Bulawayo in response to the call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for citizens to invest and create employment in the country.

The company named Jam Engineers is co-founded by Mr Eliphas Sithole, a civil engineer based in the United States of America and Mr Johnwhite Mavingire an electrical engineer based in Bulawayo.

“The idea to start a construction and electrical engineering company came in 2016. It was a dream that became a reality with the coming in of the new Government which declared that Zimbabwe is open for business.

“We have been operating quietly but now we want the world to know that Zimbabwe is really open for business for both local and foreign investors. We aim to make an impact in economic development through construction and electrical engineering which are both anchors of economic development.

“We do building, carpentry, electrical installations, plumbing, tiling, painting, paving and metal fabrication. In other words we are a one stop construction shop. On the electrical engineering side, we specialise in both domestic and industrial installations, electric motors rewinding, generator repairs, solar systems sizing and installation.

‘We might be new, but our work speaks for itself as it is led by a team of qualified engineers and artisans. The company is looking forward to getting few attachment students this year and help them gain industrial experience,” said Mr Mavingire.

Mr Mavingire added that Jam Engineers, which now has workshops in Belmont and Thorngrove, has ambitions to expand its operations to the rest of the country.

“Natural progression dictates that we will expand our base of operation to Harare so that we use Bulawayo and Harare to service the whole of Zimbabwe.

“Our plans have been slowed down by the economic situation which is not friendly not only to business but all of us as Zimbabweans. But we expect the economy to grow and we expect it to be accommodating to business as the Government is working on measures to stabile it.

“We want to be the leading construction and electrical engineering company in Zimbabwe. We have set up shop in Bulawayo because the city is the industrial hub of the country, but that does not mean we do not want to expand. We want to create jobs, we want to help in the architectural development of Zimbabwe.

“Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development and Zimbabwe can only make it with sound infrastructure,” he said.
