LOCAL fashion house, the White Cotton is set to host a fashion extravaganza that would be held at the Smoke House Bar and Grill in Bulawayo.

The fiesta, which would be the label’s second show, since inception about a decade ago, will be held on 8 November. The event will be held in collaboration with budding fashion label Pusha Ntwana. White Cotton, which was established in a partnership among three friends, has over the years nurtured young designers in the industry.

It has not only groomed young designers but has also held a series of exchange programmes with other countries such as Botswana and South Africa to study in their different environments, as well as to enrich their development in the industry.

One of the White Cotton’s founders, Shaun Sita said they were holding the show to support local fashion designers.

“The fashion show is about supporting local fashion designers and to showcase our talent to the world. Some may say it has been long since we hosted a show but we have been doing shows all along. This one is going to be our second major one and we want to do it big.

“We hope to turn it into an annual event and we want to take the Bulawayo fashion industry to another level. We are working in partnership with Alex Khumbirayi the founder of Pusha Ntwana, whom we have mentored and helped to rise to what he is today. We will be having amazing local models at the show and designers showcasing on the day such as Von Chase Leverange (LVR), White Cotton and Pusha Ntwana,” said Sita.

Sita mentioned that they felt the industry was lagging behind and had plans to push it up a notch.

“We want to evolve the whole fashion industry in Bulawayo by promoting local designers. We have a lot of shows lined up that will create a sense of competition in the industry and this will definitely help them to up their game,” he said.
