Up-AND-COMING Maskandi musician Ester Sibanda popularly known as Intombi Yabelungu in music circles, was recently crowned the best newcomer in the Vaal awards in South Africa for her debut album titled Khona Kunzima.

In an interview with Sunday Life, her manager Xolani Tshuma said he was elated by the progress made by Zimbabwean artistes in South Africa.

“As a manager of Intombi Yabelungu I am very happy about this accolade and also to see Zimbabwean artistes moving forward.

“I think this award will build her brand which will get her enough respect as an artiste. I am very confident that this award is going to open new avenues for us because it has given us more exposure and after the event we spoke to different media houses that will give us enough publicity,” he said.

Intombi Yabelungu shrugged off competition from artistes of different genres and she came out tops though she was the only artiste representing maskandi music.

She started chasing her long time dream of art when she went to South Africa in 2015 where she was supposed to feature in film called Mthwakazi kandaba which never saw the light of the day as actors started backing down.

She would see herself being part of a group called Ubuhle BamaNguni with some of the cast members who never abandoned the group.

With this group they released one album titled Salibonani, after a year she left the group because of some challenges and she went on to work on her first album that won her the award.
