Gabriel Nyoni joins Mariztburg United

FORMER Highlanders captain, Gabriel Nyoni has made a switch to the Absa Premiership in South Africa where he has joined Maritzburg United from Caps United.

Maritzburg United announced on Wednesday that they had agreed a deal with the speedy winger to join them on a permanent deal.

“The club is delighted to announce the signing of Gabriel Nyoni. The Zimbabwean winger joins the Team of Choice on a permanent deal,’’ read the club’s post on Twitter.

An elated Nyoni also confirmed on his own social media platform that he had joined The Team of Choice who are based in Pietermaritzburg and use Harry Gwala Stadium as their home ground.

“I have officially joined @MaritzburgUtd #TeamofChoice. Thank you @capsunitedfczw fans @Thank you @HighlanderBosso fans @Every Zim football fan. Beginning of more hard work. Asisebenze, Friday nights will never be the same Harry Gwala Stadium,’’ said Nyoni on Twitter.

Granvia, as Nyoni is affectionately known to local football fans for his immense speed has been on trials at Maritzburg for about two weeks and has made his first ever move to a club outside the country. The 26 year old joined Caps United from Highlanders at the end of last season.

Nyoni, a graduate from the National University of Science and Technology made the switch from Bulawayo Chiefs to Bosso in 2013.

He scored five goals for Caps United who are third on the log with 23 points form 13 matches, three points behind log leaders FC Platinum.

Maritzburg United had a terrible time during the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season, which saw them finish second from bottom. They had to secure their place in the South African top flight via the playoffs
