SMARTING from last weekend’s home defeat at the hands of Dynamos, Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title hopefuls Chicken Inn managed to fish out a point when they drew against ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday.

The venue was packed, the hosts wanted a win, so were the visitors who missed three of their regular players, Itai Mabunu, Nelson Ketala (both injured) and Bret Amidu (suspended).

In that regard, the Chicken Inn technical department had to hand ex-Highlanders and FC Platinum midfielder Denzel Khumalo his first starting place to partner Shepherd Mhlanga, Clive Dzingai and George Majika in the middle of the park while captain Moses Majika, Vincent Moyo, Xolani Ndlovu and Passmore Bernard made up the mean defence that shut out hard running veteran Newman Sianchali, Foster Dhemere and tricky substitute Johanne Sibanda.

Sianchali led ZPC Kariba’s attack with so much aplomb, creating numerous scoring chances that his teammates could not make them count for the Collen Muleya captained side.

After the match, Antipas reckoned: “A half a loaf is better than nothing. At least we managed to get a point after our defeat to Dynamos. Defeats can always affect a team’s confidence. We created chances and they also did. It was a game where both teams cancelled each other. We take the point ahead of next game against Harare City. Today, our defence did well and a draw was the fair result.”

His opposite number Rodwell Dhlakama felt they dropped two crucial points.

“We came into the match as underdogs but we managed to match them pound for pound. I feel its two points dropped for us because we need to pick points. I’m disappointed by the draw. We are not losers, we will fight till the last game because we want to avoid relegation,” said Dhlakama.
