THE Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has announced pre-planting prices for maize, traditional grains, soyabean, and sunflower for the 2024/25 summer season.
In a statement, GMB chief executive officer (CEO) Dr. Edson Badarai reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining a pivotal role in the agricultural stabilization and transformation agenda.
He said the maize pre-planting prices are US$335,14 per metric tonne, traditional grains US$335,14 per metric tonne, soyabean US$619,31 per metric tonne, and sunflower US$712,20 per metric tonne.
Meanwhile, GMB is also seeking the services of reputable and qualified wheat toll millers and has since invited those fitting the description to register for consideration.
This comes as the country witnessed record wheat yields of 563 961 tonnes from 119 594 hectares last year.
GMB is purchasing all wheat financed under the Presidential Input Programme (PIP) and from self-financed growers with the self-financed farmers free to sell to buyers of choice.
GMB remains the buyer of the last resort and is working with the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) to provide commercial warehouse receipt services to all players.
Malnutrition in this case could be attributed to the El Nino drought, the worst in over 40 years in the region.
The drought was also accompanied by severe heat, hence scientists declared 2024 as the hottest year on record.
These herbivores graze on vegetation surrounding wetlands, helping to prevent overgrowth, which can clog water sources, disrupt the natural flow of water, and threaten the biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems.
Hippos face numerous threats to their survival as a species. During periods of food scarcity, hungry hippos can survive for up to three weeks without eating, but any longer, and they are doomed.
An adult hippo requires up to 50 kg of food daily.
