Sunday Sermon with Apostle Chisale

GREETINGS beloved nation in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”.

As believers it is important to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as we are told in the book of 2 Peter 3:18. The Bible also tells us in the book of Colossians 1:10, “that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God”. It is a command from God, meaning He expects us as believers to grow in the knowledge of Him and of Jesus Christ. God expects us to grow and mature in our walk with Him. Accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour and being born again is just the beginning of the spiritual journey in the life of a believer.

It is unfortunate that many Christians after they accept Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour, believe that is enough or that they have arrived. As a result they don’t grow spiritually because they fail to grow in the knowledge of God and they remain at one level in their entire life.

But what does it take to grow? There are several things that are involved in growing in the knowledge of God and one of them involves seeking this knowledge. Why? Because growing in the knowledge of God will not come on its own, we have to seek after the knowledge of God. Seeking after the knowledge of God will cause us to grow spiritually. You cannot grow spiritually unless you start seeking after the knowledge of Him. The Bible tells us in the book of Matthew 7: 7 that’ “Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you”.

Meaning that in order to find something, we have to start by seeking it, we have to be the ones who initiate the seeking. Even in our everyday lives, in order to have knowledge about something or a certain subject or topic we have to read about it and research about it, we do not just stumble on facts.

The same is true about growing in the knowledge of God. God desires that we seek and search after this knowledge, just like a person seeks and searches for buried treasure. We see people who seek for gold that they will spend a lot of time and effort in search of this precious metal. They will use metal detectors, go into dangerous mine pits seeking and searching for it. The same is true about the knowledge of God. The book of Hosea 6: 3 NKJV says, “Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord”. When you pursue something, you try to discover information about it.

The Bible also tell us in Proverbs 1: 7 that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” and Proverbs 9: 10 tell us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of God. So meaning that in order to get wisdom and knowledge of God, it has to start by us having a fear of the Lord. Having fear of God involves having respect for Him and His ways. Many believers are failing to grow in the knowledge of God because their lifestyles are not showing a fear of the Lord.

They live a life of compromise and make wrong choices in life. Because they do not fear God and His ways, they fail to grow in the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ. The Bible also tells us in Proverbs 1:28-29 that, “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord”. Meaning that if we hate knowledge and do not fear God, we cannot grow in the knowledge of God. Lack of knowledge can destroy us. In the book of Hosea 4:6, the Bible tells us that my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Isaiah 5:13 also tells us that, “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge”.

We see that being ignorant can destroy us or lead us into some kind of captivity. If we do not have the knowledge of God in our lives, this can lead us into getting ourselves involved in things or activities that will lead to some form of bondage or captivity. For example many young people are being led into captivity because they lack knowledge to fully understand what they are getting themselves involved with in the first place.

They become involved in drugs and all sorts of deviant behaviour because they lack knowledge on the consequences or effects of drugs. Many young people are now drug addicts or have been led into captivity of drugs simply because they lacked knowledge. The Bible tells us that they are destroyed. Many people have had their lives literally destroyed because they lacked knowledge. So we see that having knowledge of God can keep us from getting involved in things or activities that will later on destroy us.

It is my prayer that God the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ may give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you may grow in your knowledge of God and that you may abide in His word. I pray that the Holy Spirit, who is our helper, will teach you all things so that you may grow in the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ. Once again I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all and this beautiful nation. Amen
