Gvt unfreezes 650 more posts in health sector

THE Government has opened up 650 more positions in the health sector as it steps up efforts to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In March this year, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development approved recruitment of 4 200 health workers as part of a wider Covid-19 mitigation measures. This saw the unfreezing of 4 000 health sector posts and creation of an additional 200 medical posts with a view of scaling the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Posting on the Twitter page on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported that an additional 650 posts have been opened.

“An additional 650 posts for health workers have been opened up at the Ministry of Health and Child Care in order to adequately staff quarantine and isolation centres,” reads the tweet.

This comes as the country recorded five new cases of the pandemic as at Wednesday, bringing the number of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases in the country to 530.

According to statistics provided by the Ministry all the new cases comprise of returnees from South Africa.

“To date the total number of confirmed cases is 530, recovered 123, active cases 401 and six deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020,” reads part of the update.
