GWANDA Rural District Council (RDC) has revealed its 2021 first quarter plans that will be centred around improving the infrastructure around Gwanda North and South communities.

The local authority said road network, building of schools and clinics will be a priority. Newly appointed acting chief executive officer Mr Nkosilathi Ncube said they will be working through short-term plans. Before his appointment on 1 January, Mr Ncube was serving Gwanda RDC as internal auditor for close to 10 years.

In an interview last week, Mr Ncube said the first quarter of the year was about improving the state of the infrastructure.

“In terms of rains it has been a good season so far as we have received above normal rains. However, as most roads are dust roads we are then poised for challenges as the state of the roads is set to dilapidate. In that light fixing the roads will be one of our top priorities as we want people to easily access services around their communities,” said Mr Ncube.

Mr Ncube said they were working closely in bringing the private sector on board for the construction of schools and clinics.

“We have on-going programmes of constructing schools and clinics. Schools include those in Matshetseni, Garanyemba and Shanyaugwe, among others. As a Government entity we are open to public and private partnerships and these are vital as they bring with them the needed expertise and funding,” said Mr Ncube. @mthabisi_mthire
