CHIVI South National Assembly member Cde Killer Zivhu has come to the rescue of four physically challenged members of Mwenezi’s Gonamombe family at Godora Farm Village 4 under Chief Chitanga by donating 30 000 bricks for the construction of a decent home and some blankets.

The four, three of them who are now aged 27, 25, and 22 have both physical and mental disabilities.

They are part of a nine-member family comprising six adults and three minors. Among the six there is one girl who is married, four minors aged between eight and 13 who attend Marirangwe Primary School which is about eight kilometers away from their homestead.

The four can not walk and they crawl to interact with the environment. Their widowed mother, Ms Dzosai Chihora (55) is the one who begs for food to fend for her family and takes the responsibility to bath them everyday despite their ages.

The sombre story of the family was recently shown on national television ZBCtv. In an interview Mwenezi District Administrator Ms Rosemary Chingwe hailed well-wishers who were assisting the Gonamombe family saying the situation called for combative effort from all Zimbabweans.

“I would like to thank Honourable Zivhu for such a gesture as the family is in critical situation. Imagine all the four cannot walk as they are paralysed, have Downs’ Syndrome and they could not attend school,” said Ms Chingwe.

She said the Rotary Club had also chipped in with four wheel chairs for the quartet’s mobility and more well wishers were making inquiries on how they could assist the family.

“Rotary Club has donated four wheelchairs and we would like to thank the organisation for such a gesture. There is also another organisation which has offered to build the family a decent home using the 30 000 bricks donated by Hon Zivhu. We are also looking forward to provide the family with livestock, ploughs and other household items which can sustain it in the long run,” she said.

She said the department of social services has been providing food in the form of 50kg of maize grain per month but the family’s condition called for something beyond just food.

She appealed to the people of Masvingo and beyond to assist less privileged members of the society so that they could also lead normal lives despite their condition. She said those willing to assist should contact her office on 0775162675.
