HIGHLANDERS have filled the bulk of their senior players slots with only one opening left, that for a striker.

Bosso coach Mandla Mpofu said he now has 24 senior players, with one slot reserved specifically for a striker.

“We have one slot left for a striker, so far, we have 24 senior players plus one junior,’’ said Mpofu.

Keith Mavunga, a former Young Warriors striker is the man entrusted with providing goals for Highlanders this season together with Toto Banda and Lynoth Chikuhwa. After the 2-0 defeat to Dynamos in the Independence Cup in Harare last month, Mpofu has decided to reserve one slot for a striker. His hunt has so far yielded no results, with the Bosso gaffer even prepared to search for a solution in the lower divisions.

Mpofu however, has two weeks to secure a gunman since registration for this season closes on 15 May.

The Highlanders coach is eager to have his players play friendly matches but the Premier Soccer League has declared that no such fixtures should take place until Covid-19 compliance officers have been appointed and trained. It means Mpofu’s next opportunity to see his players in actual action will be at the PSL cluster competition which starts on 15 May.
