HIGHLANDERS coach, Kelvin Kaindu, got a boost on Friday when his players were paid their salaries for the first time this year.
The payment was a welcome relief to the club whose players had twice last week boycotted training because of outstanding dues. On Friday head coach Kelvin Kaindu, said he was focusing on tactical preparations for their upcoming home game against Kwekwe United at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon after a disappointing 1-0 loss to MWOS in their season opener at Baobab Stadium in Ngezi last Sunday.
Kaindu is aware of the challenges posed by Kwekwe United, a newly promoted team that earned a solid draw against Ngezi Platinum.
He emphasised the importance of getting the tactics right this afternoon.
“We picked up some few positives from our last game. When you face these newly promoted teams they come up with a lot of zeal and energy. Our opponents picked up a point against Ngezi Platinum and they are likely to be full of confidence and energy. They will be excited to play at Barbourfields Stadium and we just hope to get our tactics right on the day and come up with a positive result,” said Kaindu.
After months of delays, Highlanders have finally paid their January salaries to both players and staff, a situation exacerbated by the club waiting for their primary sponsor, Sakunda Holdings, to finalise a new deal.

The financial difficulties have affected operational costs, with the club relying on additional sponsors like Better Brands and Kings Bullion to stay afloat. Despite the financial challenges, Bosso remain hopeful that the team’s situation will improve, especially once the Fifa transfer ban is lifted, allowing for new signings to strengthen the squad.
Kaindu is eyeing reinforcements, including defender Malvern Hativagoni, striker Never Rauzhi, winger Tendai Muvuti and midfielders Hubert Ncube and Mafious Chiweta, though these players will not be available for the upcoming match until the transfer ban is resolved.
In another match of interest, CAPS United will face Scottland at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, aiming to make a statement after a solid start to the season. Scottland, who have invested heavily in their squad, will be a tough opponent, but CAPS United, bolstered by new signings, will look to challenge them despite the tough task ahead.
