THE friendly match which was scheduled for this afternoon pitting Highlanders and Northern Region Division One soccer side MWOS at Ngoni Stadium in Norton has been cancelled.
The decision was necessitated by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) decision not to have any other official match on the weekend of a major cup final. The Castle Challenge Cup final saw Ngezi Platinum Stars take on Dynamos at Mhondoro’s Baobab Stadium yesterday. Bosso announced yesterday that their friendly game had been cancelled.
“The club would like to confirm that our friendly match against MWOS that was supposed to take place at Ngoni Stadium, Norton tomorrow (today) has been cancelled as the weekend is scheduled for the Castle Challenge Cup. Any inconveniences caused are sincerely regretted,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, Highlanders and Dynamos have jointly condemned the remarks made by the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League chairman Farai Jere regarding the clubs.
“His characterisation of Highlanders and Dynamos as violent teams is not only reckless but also deeply concerning. Such allegations have the potential to damage the reputation and integrity of our esteemed clubs as well as undermine the spirit of fair play in Zimbabwean football. We categorically reject Jere’s remarks and call for them to be unequivocally condemned,” said Bosso and DeMbare.
They added: “Futhermore, we express our disappointment with utterances by Jere that our Match Day One fixture was deliberately fixed, a decision that goes against principles of fairness and equality that are the foundation of competitive sport.”
