HONEST Moyo, the Highlanders captain last season has left the club, with the left back said to be headed to one of the neigbhouring countries.

Highlanders yesterday announced that Moyo, who was the team’s skipper last season, had opted to seek greener pastures outside the country’s borders.

“We would like to announce that Honest Moyo has decided to seek new challenges across our borders. He is the product of our junior structures and he served the Club well. He believes the younger players have matured and now ready to take up responsibility and drive the club forward,’’ said Highlanders.

Despite being named the captain by Highlanders technical manager Madinda Ndlovu, Moyo got little game time due to injuries and the good form showed by replacement Mbongeni Ndlovu who played most of the matches on the left side of the Bosso defence in the second half of the season.

Moyo becomes the second player who was part of the Bosso leadership to leave the club after Gabriel Nyoni decided not to renew his contract and has since joined Caps United. That leaves goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, who recently extended his stay at Highlanders as the only player who was part of the leadership group last season still with Amahlolanyama.

Highlanders have been active in the player transfer market with a number of new players signed for the 2019 season. Last week, Bosso announced that they had captured former Dynamos midfielder Cleopas Kapupurika and utility player Mbekezeli Sibanda who had a stint in Slovakia having turned out for Zifa Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision before that. In between those two signings, defender Peter Muduhwa, who had given the Highlanders leadership headaches finally decided to stay put at Bosso by extending his contract by two years.

Last Friday, Highlanders announced that they had decided not to renew the contract of striker Newman Sianchali who is said to have joined Caps United.

Highlanders chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Dube said the pre-season starts on 20 January with medicals before the actual camp starts at the beginning of February. It is expected that by the time the camp starts, the final squad for the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season would have been finalised.
