LIKE the motto states “In Pursuit of Excellence” Luveve High School in Bulawayo has announced plans to renovate its hostel which was burnt down in 2009 so as to ease accommodation challenges.

In an interview with Sunday News, Deputy Headmaster of Luveve High School Mr Yuki Nhananga said once the hostel was renovated, the school would be in a position to enrol more pupils.

He said the school was working on projects which were in line with the new education curriculum part of which seeks practical education delivery as against theory.

“We are currently building chicken fowl runs for agriculture as the new curriculum requires that every student has to engage in agriculture.

So far we have completed one fowl run, we are just preparing to buy the birds, so within the next two weeks our project will be in course.

“The second fowl run is almost complete. We are planning to put broilers and layers, the reason we chose animal husbandry is that there is shortage of water in our area so crop agriculture will be a bit of a challenge. We tried to drill a borehole and we failed to get water that is why we chose a project that will not require a lot of water.

“We are also trying to buy more textbooks for our students, the textbooks will help the children have proper learning materials for the effective implementation of the competence-based curriculum. However, the main challenge we have is that most of our suppliers are charging in forex,” said Mr Nhananga.

He added that the school was working on refurbishing other facilities.

“We are doing a lot of face lifting where we are currently building a wall around the school to secure the property and also to secure the children, and at the same time we are working on refurbishing our dining hall so that our facility becomes eye-catching,” he said.

The school also announced plans to build more classrooms to help move away from the double-sessioning (hot-sitting) to single-sessioning.

This will help enhance the study programme and create more time for the sporting and cultural activities.
