THE Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is set to recruit eight Labour Court judges and has invited members of the public to nominate suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancies.

In a notice issued by the commission, the candidates must be Zimbabwean citizens aged 40 years or older, qualified legal practitioners, and have practiced under the Roman-Dutch or English legal systems, among other requirements.

“The Judicial Service Commission announces that eight (8) vacancies for Judges have arisen in the Labour Court of Zimbabwe. In terms of section 180 (4)(b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, members of the public are hereby invited to nominate suitably qualified persons to fill the above positions in the Labour Court,” reads part of the notice.

“A person is qualified for appointment as a judge of the Labour Court, if he or she is at least forty years old and, in addition—if he or she is or has been a judge of a court with unlimited jurisdiction in civil or criminal matters in a country in which the common law is Roman-Dutch or English and English is an officially recognised language, or for at least seven years, whether continuously or not, he or she has been qualified to practise as a legal practitioner.”

Additionally, the commission noted that to be appointed as a judge of the Labour Court, a candidate must be a fit and proper person to hold judicial office.

Aspiring candidates are required to submit a medical report attesting to their mental and physical fitness to serve as a Labour Court Judge.

Failure to disclose the required information will result in disqualification from the interviews, the commission warned.

JSC advised that members of the public intending to nominate candidates can obtain nomination forms from the office of the Secretary, Judicial Service Commission at JSC House, or from the office of the Provincial Magistrate in charge of the province in Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Bindura, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Gwanda, Marondera, Hwange, and Gweru. Forms can also be downloaded from the JSC website at www.jsc.org.zw.
