WARRIORS prospect Lucien Mahovo made headlines last week after making his first start for Norwich City in England.
A year ago, he was on loan at Boston United in the National League North, quietly building his game in the lower leagues.
Fast forward to last Saturday, and the 19-year-old was starting in a 5-1 victory for Norwich City against Swansea, a dream come true for the young defender.
Mahovo had always dreamt of playing in the Championship, but standing on the pitch at Carrow Road, with 30 000 fans in the stands, was a different experience for the youngster.
“It’s been a nervous one (this week). After the Leeds game I could definitely feel the nerves because I knew I had the opportunity to start, but there’s no point fighting it. I have just embraced it and I think I’ve performed well.”
The teenager, who was signed by Norwich in July 2024, said he cannot complain about being “thrown in at the deep end.”
“It’s quick and you get a lot more adrenaline playing in front of 30 000 fans compared to five or 10 (thousand),” Mahovo said of the difference between the Championship and the lower leagues.
Mahovo said he is hoping to build on the opportunity with more starts.
“It’s not just this one performance, I have to keep building on it. It’s got to be two, three, four and then make it a consistent thing,” said Mahovo.

Michael Nees
Born in the UK to a Zimbabwean father, Mahovo had the option to represent both England and Zimbabwe at international level.
With all the success that has come with the foreign based players that have been called to the national team of late, Mahovo will be hoping to maintain top form and probably catch the eye of Michael Nees ahead of the Afcon finals later in the year.
In the draw held in Rabat Morocco this past week, the Warriors were placed in a competitive group alongside South Africa, Angola, and Egypt.
Despite Zimbabwe being ranked in Pot Four, Nees considers their draw to be a fair one.
The Warriors avoided the host nation, Morocco, who were drawn into a group with Mali, Zambia, and Comoros.
The Warriors have a packed schedule before Afcon with World Cup Qualifiers lined up but those will certainly be too early for Mahovo to be considered.
