A GROUP of Nigerian business people in Bulawayo has donated goods worth more than $4 000 to aid Cyclone Idai victims.

The donation was handed over to Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Cde Judith Ncube at a ceremony held at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex.

The Nigerian delegation was led by the chairman of the Nigerian community in Bulawayo Mr Chidi Okafor.

One of the delegates Mr Obinna from the consular office of the Nigerian community in Harare said they would continue to give assistance to those affected by the cyclone.

“Helping out people is our way of doing things especially after such a devastating incident because it is even written in the bible. What is happening here is some kind of cordiality that existed between Zimbabwe and Nigeria for years, which dates to the 1980s when the foreign policy of Nigeria was largely Afrocentric. Even to this date it still is, meaning we take the interests of Africa at heart,” said Mr. Obinna.

He said he cannot even begin to imagine what those people went through but was astounded to have been part of the people that came to aide those in need.

Mr Obinna said they were grateful to have been awarded the opportunity and audience by Cde Ncube, despite having a tight schedule.

Also present were Mr Edwin Anyanwu and Mr Chidi Alex Ngwube to hand over the goods to Cde Ncube.

“Thank you very much for helping our brothers and sisters in their time of need we appreciate the kind gesture,” said Cde Ncube.
