Letters to the Editor: Let’s safeguard the new notes from black market

The Sunday News

As Zimbabweans we were happy to receive the news that the RBZ will soon introduce the new higher denominations of up to $50s to make it easier for the citizens to transact.

Most items these days are being sold for anything above $100 and this includes basic commodities.

Some businesses are now rejecting coins and we all hope with the introduction of bigger denominations this will make it easy for businesspeople to do business in a proper way.

We however, hope the government will put some tough measures to make sure that the money will not find its way to money changers on the black market.

These illegal money changers have brought untold suffering on the people of this country but to my surprise these people continue to do their illegal business on our streets during the day as if there are no police officers.

Last time when the current money was introduced into the market, we were shocked to see brand new batches of the new notes on the market and no single bank was arrested for supplying the black market at a time when thousands of people sleep in queues failing to get cash.

This must come to an end immediately.
