Letters to the Editor: Let’s up our game in fight against Covid-19

The Sunday News

Zimbabwe has, so far, recorded two cases of coronavirus, but that does not mean that we should be complacent.

As citizens, we must always be responsible and take all the necessary precautions so that we prevent further outbreaks.

Just because only two cases have been confirmed does not mean we might not have more infected individuals within our borders.

Since our borders have not been closed, there might be individuals coming into the country, who might have had contact with infected persons who may not have been tested at the border.

This would mean that if we continue being complacent and ignore the precautions we have been told to observe, we might easily facilitate the spread of the virus.

Just last week, the Government banned public gatherings of more than 100 people in a move aimed at combating the spread of the virus and hopefully we will all abide.

I know that some churches and leisure spots might ignore this call and continue operating as if everything is normal, but this will be fatal.

This disease is serious. Look at what is happening in Italy. When they had their first few cases, they did not act accordingly and now the virus has been spreading in the country like wildfire. I am glad that our Government has already started preaching the gospel of social distancing and hopefully we will all comply.

Mudzimu Mukuru,

Harare.
