A SECOND half strike by Fredrick Muza was what all visiting TelOne needed to dismiss home side Chicken Inn in a Week 30 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

It was against the run of play that the Wi-Fi Boys snatched the all-important goal.

Muza struck in the 50th minute from an impressive Blessing Sibanda feed, condemning Chicken Inn to their eighth defeat of the season.

As a result, Gamecocks remained glued on 42 points two behind tied Highlanders and Manica Diamonds who clash at Sakubva Stadium today.

Telone are now on 38 points.

Determined Chicken Inn had lady luck not smiling on them, as they could have at least snatched a point against TelOne had their captain Xolani Ndlovu in a rare development not missed a second-half penalty that was saved by goalkeeper Criss Mverechena, whose stock appears to be rising by each passing day.

Chicken Inn head coach, Joey Antipas conceded defeat.

“We made five changes to the team that played against Dynamos as we had to give the other guys a run. It was not our day, if it’s not your day it’s not your day. In the first half we were flat and in the second half we shot ourselves on the foot. We were too slow. However, we will keep on going. Our creativity was not up to standard,” said Antipas in his post-match interview. Before he saw his goalkeeper Mverechena, save the Ndlovu penalty, TelOne head coach, Hebert Maruwa, late into the match took everyone at Luveve Stadium by surprise, when he physically man-handled a young ball boy before kicking the match ball out of the pitch side, much to the disgruntlement of many.

The coach was detained by Zimbabwe Republic Police details who were at the stadium soon after the match.

“We are happy about the three points that we got. It was a difficult game but these are crucial points for us. Away from the match troubles, I am happy that we managed to contain Chicken Inn,” said Ncube.
