THE Zanu-PF parliamentary candidate for Nketa-Emganwini, Cde Elifas Mashaba, yesterday donated 40 computers worth $46 000 to two schools  in the constituency.

The schools that benefited were Nkulumane High and Emganwini High which received 10 computers each while Nketa Library will receive 20 laptops tomorrow. He also donated 1000 gum tree seedlings to the schools.

In an interview after the donation at Nkulumane High, Cde Mashaba said the gesture was not a campaign gimmick but a way of helping the community.

“This is not about campaigning, it is about identifying myself with the community for a good cause for the betterment of the education of our children,” he said.

Cde Mashaba promised to ensure that the schools and library are connected to the Internet so that pupils can use the computers to research and help in their studies.

“I promise that by the end of next week I will have optic fibre connected to the schools and library so as to impact the youths and change the life of Nketa and make the work of teachers easy,” he said.

Nkulumane High School senior teacher Mr Fungai Saruchera commended Cde Mashaba, saying the computers will improve learning at the school.

“We are excited with the good cause and hoping more computers will be coming because with the 51 computers we had, four pupils were sharing one computer,” he said.

The donation was a huge boost for Emganwini which did not have computers at all.

“What it means now is that children at Emganwini can now start having computer lessons. That is a milestone and as you can see, children and parents are very happy today,” he said.

Apart from the computer donations, Cde Mashaba also hired doctors who were giving free medication to people through out the constituency. The doctors will also be providing free medical care today.
