SOMETIMES you find yourself at crossroads where one has to choose what they are good at. Meet 29-year-old Howard Mpofu aka HD from Rujeko suburb, Masvingo, one of the talented and outstanding photographers who was once in a dilemma on which career to pursue between rap and photography.

Mpofu switched from music to photography two years ago and he won the Best Outstanding Photographer on the 6th edition of the Masvingo Music and Arts Awards (MMAA) held at Charles Austin Theatre on Friday.

“Three years ago I stood up on the same stage holding up The Best Hip Hop Artist of the year award, that was back when I was still making music. Fast forward to a couple years later I switched lanes and reinvented myself into a photographer and last night we bagged the Most Outstanding Photographer Award of 2019. I’m living proof that if you put your mind on anything you can be what you want to be. Don’t give up! Start small and start today, it’s never too late! Thank you for your support and love. I genuinely appreciate you all,” posted Mpofu on Facebook.

Mpofu popularly known for his Blow up video has been recognised by the MMAA for his music talent. He won the Best Hip Hop video (2014) for Super stars, Best Hip Hop single (2015) for Blow up track and Best Hip Hop Artist in 2016.

Mpofu has always been an all-round artist as he was a cinematographer for a Television series called Hwindi that was aired on ZBC.

“I am also into cinematography as a side hustle, we produced a TV series called Hwindi which was aired on ZBC, I also featured on Dreamers series on ZBC, I am also into marketing as I do graphic designing,” he said.

Mpofu said he did not quit music but he had switched priorities, “Music was always a hobby since high school, it’s not something I can say that I quit, it’s just that I switched priorities now that I have my own company called HD Photography, I still write songs especially for awareness campaigns if there is money,” said Mpofu.
