WITH summer here we can look forward to so much sunshine, pool parties and outdoor adventures. But just because our layers peel away with heat it doesn’t mean a guy can’t look stylish all while being equipped for the blazing hot summer. Get yourself a cold drink, dive into our men’s summer fashion guide to keep yourself looking good all without breaking a sweat.

Shirts

Slim t-shirt — nothing more versatile in summer than a well-fitting, comfortable lightweight t-shirt. Opt for shirts that feel light yet strong, and aren’t too see through when you pull your hand up from underside. Stripes are fun without being too loud, and solid light colours like light green and burnt orange are a go this summer. Add character to your wardrobe without going overboard. T-shirts never go out of style.

Chambray shirt — no man’s summer shirting closet is complete without a garment made from chambray, lightweight plain weave fabric. Though visually similar to denim, chambray shirts retain the breathable and moisture wicking properties of lighter fabrics, which make it ideal for summer weather. Stick to white and blue colours when it comes to chambray.

Linen shirt — effortlessly stylish in its simplicity, linen shirts remain a decisive summer, essential. Linen comes from fibres of the flax plant, creating a strong and absorbent and quick drying material perfect for summer. Linen is breathable, even though it wrinkles quickly it’s worth it.

Pants/Bottoms

Chino pants — the chino pant is a season-less stable for nearly all occasions, should replace jeans as a go to pair of pants. Often made with a twill weave, chinos become a cooler alternative for a neutral look. Wear them in a slightly looser style with the bottom hem cuffed a few times. Khakhi and navy are the obvious choices but you can try off-white this summer.

Lightweight jeans — even with the warmer weather, some guys just don’t want to hang up that favourite pair of jeans. Thinner denims in lighter washes paves the way for summer that will keep you looking cool without breaking a sweat. With the typically lighter colour pallete of summer fashion, save indigo and navy for the colder months.

Linen pants — we spoke about the shirts earlier, it goes double for pants. Linen trousers are looser, roomier fits are an absolute game changer when it comes to unbridled comfort met with classic style.

Sweat shorts — when it comes to battling the summer heat, nothing beats a comfortable lightweight pair of sweat shorts. Sweat shorts, as their name suggests, the cropped little brother of traditional sweat pants, but far from unfashionable. Whether you are home or running errands you are guaranteed to be comfy all day.

Low top sneakers — time and time again, the minimalist white sneaker affirms that it’s here to stay and not complaining. The favourite for white sneakers is smooth leather, though it’s hard to go wrong with canvas and perforated leather.

Sandals/Flip flops — you can keep your feet cool while still looking put together with styles that are less casual than the rubber flip flops. While these are perfect for a pool party, choose slides for everyday wear.

Sunglasses — if there is one thing to never sacrifice quality on it’s a pair of good sunglasses. You only have one set of eyes so be sure to protect them with tinted shades.

Woven belt — less formal than a solid leather belt, these come in a variety of colours and designs to add just the right amount of personality to your look.

Solid watch — no matter the occasion, there’s a watch for the job. We are not saying wear your Rolex to the picnic or casual event, but a simple timepiece can add a lot of character to a man’s summer outfit. If you find the typical leather straps overplayed, pick up a few nylon straps. They are affordable and waterproof.

Solid cologne — your style goes farther than just the clothes you wear, so your scent is no exception. Solid cologne is a balm like alternative to the typical liquid fragrances we are used to wearing is much easier to layer on just the right amount to avoid being that guy.

No show socks — if there’s one major men’s summer fashion mistake we catch a lot of guys making is that their socks stifle their shoes. Going sockless is possible, but lots of people are prone to sweaty feet. So invest in secret socks, or socks that match your skin tone. You want your shoes to make the statement, not your socks.

Happy summer fellas! — Additional information from online sources.
