A 39-year-old man from Eastlea suburb in Zvishavane who had been missing for three days was found dead with his body burnt beyond recognition in a suspected case of murder.
A prophet, Mr Rugare Chinameso (36), who had gone for his evening prayer sessions last week at a nearby bush stumbled upon Innocent Kujinga’s body which had been burnt and was dumped in a trench.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident.
“Police in Midlands are investigating a case of murder after the body of Kujinga was found burnt and dumped in a trench in the bush. The deceased had been missing for three days. No arrests have been made so far and we’re appealing to anyone who has information to come forward,” said Insp Goko.
He said after stumbling on the body, Mr Chinameso reported the matter to the police who attended the scene.
Kujinga’s body was then taken to Bulawayo for post-mortem Insp Goko raised concern over the upsurge in the number of murder cases in the province.
The deceased’s family has since offered a US$5 000 reward to anyone who has information on Kujinga’s death.
A family spokesperson Mr Donald Nyirenda said the family is still failing to come to terms with Kujinga’s death.
“As a family we are still shocked and we are grappling to accept such an untimely and gruesome death.
“We believe that his assailants burnt his body in trying to hide the grisly murder that Innocent was subjected to. No one has been arrested yet for his murder, but as a family we are offering a reward of US$5 000 to anyone who has information about his murder.
“We are desperate for answers and we are asking anyone who knows something to report to the police,” said Mr Nyirenda.
Recently, police in the province have been carrying out awareness campaigns as murder cases continue to surge.
