DEPUTY Minister of Industry and Commerce and prominent Bulawayo businessman Cde Raji Modi in collaboration with the Embassy of India last week held a Health Camp at Sizinda Hall, where they are targeting mainly the elderly from Bulawayo South constituency.

Cde Modi is the Member of Parliament for the area. The Embassy of India embarked on the partnership as part of their commemorations of the Independence Day of India.

“The venue was Sizinda since there are a number of old people located here who cannot afford to get medical assistance, regular checkups and buy their medications especially those suffering from chronic illnesses and most of them can’t afford to get a regular medical checkup and they cannot afford to buy medication. We have partnered with the Indian Embassy in Zimbabwe in celebration of the Indian Independence and we intended to bring health closer to the people.”

Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Amb Vijay Khanduja said they had partnered with the local membership in assisting people in Sizinda with medical assistance through health checkups such as eye screening, Covid-19 testing, diabetes testing, HIV testing, checking of blood pressure, family planning and doctors’ consultations as well as free medication.

“Our health camp kicked off with about more than 300 residents coming to get their health checkup and we will continue providing comprehensive medical checkups. Last year we provided medicines and US$1 million, we also gifted 10 ambulances and vaccines for the public in order for them to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and apart from health issues we have also assisted Zimbabwe in providing rice,” he said.

Annually, Cde Modi provides free medical checkups where the public gets free medication. Since he began the campaigns, he has held two health expos in Bulawayo South — the first one was at Tshabalala Clinic and the second one in Bellevue and this year it was at Sizinda Hall.
