A MUTARE trio recently appeared before the courts facing one count of kidnapping and another count of robbery.
The trio was found guilty and remanded in custody to 22 October 2024 for sentencing
According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Blessing Chireshe (34), Courage Musamba (24) and Dennis Muchero (24) appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
“Allegations are that on the 4th of October 2024, the accused persons were driving a green Toyota Corona on a dirt road and ran over an irrigation pipe which belongs to the complainant, Learnmore Prosper Chanaiwa (27),”reads the statement.
The complainant stopped their motor vehicle, grabbed the complainant, forced him into their vehicle, hand cuffed him and drove off with him.
“They only released him after he paid them USD $20,” NPAZ said.
The following day, the accused persons armed with a pistol, pepper spray and a pair of handcuffs approached the second complainant and introduced themselves as police detectives on duty.
“The complainant asked the accused persons to produce their police identity cards and one of the accused person produced a pistol and robbed the complainant of his USD$1050,” the NPAZ said.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons and recovery of the pistol with seven rounds, pepper spray, a pair of handcuffs and the motor vehicle which was used to commit the crime.
