MZILIKAZI High School yesterday clinched the inaugural Mahachi Foundation Anti-drug Cup after walloping their counterparts from Mpopoma 3-0 in the final in Makokoba, Bulawayo.

Watched by a vociferous crowd made up of people from all walks of life, the two teams did not disappoint in the four team tournament. The youngsters showed a lot of potential as they played top class football to cap a fine sporting day for all those in attendance to witness this tournament.

As expected the juniors plying their trade under Highlanders Football Club, Prince Chikova the top goal scorer swung the pendulum in favour of Mzililkazi through his lethal boot who seemed to be scoring for fun despite coming up against a determined Mpopoma who were however, let down by their toothless strikers.

On their way to the final Mzilikazi brushed aside Sobukhazi 2-0 while Mpopoma beat a helpless St Columbu’s 4-0 to book a date with their eventual fate.

After a penalty shoot-out to separate the third as well as fourth teams Sobukhazi won 4-3 against fighting St Columbu’s after a 3-3 score line failed to separate the teams during regulation time.

Sadly due to club commitments outside the country, the brains behind the project, Butholezwe Mahachi, as well as his friends Danny Phiri, Tenege Hadebe as well as Marvelous Nakamba were not there to witness the boys shine.

However, encouraging were words of advice from all of the dignitaries in attendance who included the Zifa Southern Region Chairman, the area councillor among others which was; stay away from drugs, while following the footsteps of this players who horned their trade at this ground then moved to better leagues.

The best players, Prince Chikova the top goal scorer, the best goal keeper Romeo Zimba the player of the tournament both from Highlanders alongside Charlton Nyahanana of Mpopoma will have their school fees paid for by the foundation for two terms.
