BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe – October 7, 2024 – Thousands gathered today at Barbourfields Stadium to bid farewell to National Hero Tshinga Dube, known affectionately as Siduduzo.
The emotional send-off was marked by heartfelt speeches and memories shared by family members and dignitaries.
Mr Kenny Sigoba, representing the Dube family, addressed the mourners, reflecting on the profound impact of Dube’s life.
“Tshinga, born in Fort Usher in 1941, was not just a national hero; he was a beacon of hope for many,” Sigoba said.
He revealed that Dube’s birth name, Siduduzo, was given by his mother to bring comfort to the family after the loss of his elder brother.
Dube’s inquisitive nature was highlighted, with Sigoba recounting how the young Dube questioned societal inequalities between whites and blacks, ultimately leading him to leave home in 1963 to join the armed struggle for independence.
“Rtd Col Dube’s legacy of truth-telling and love must remain in our hearts and the hearts of future generations,” Sigoba emphasized.
“He was a giver; no one left his home empty-handed. We are deeply grateful for recognising his contributions through the national hero status granted by our President.”
This recognition is viewed by many as a testament to Dube’s lifelong commitment to justice and equality. As mourners reflected on his legacy, they hoped future generations would learn from his unwavering dedication to the fight for freedom and social justice.
