FBC Reinsurance Bulawayo branch manager, Mr Cuthbert Masukume has been elected president of the Insurance Institute of Bulawayo.
Mr Masukume was elected to the position at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held in the city and takes over from TIB Insurance Brokers managing director, Mr Charles Mulele.
He said his organisation was meant to promote a good feeling and friendly relations among members of the insurance industry, encouraging dissemination of business knowledge and inculcation of sound insurance practice by the reading and discussion of papers.
There have been a lot of complaints among people who feel that the insurance sector has not done much to ensure that policy holders get value for their investments especially those that were active before the introduction of the foreign currency era.
“We will seek to promote and organise meetings, discussions and social activities for the benefit and interest of members.”
He said they would also promote the guidance of students in studying insurance and related fields and foster high ethical standards throughout the industry.
First Mutual Health western region client relations officer, Ms Kathy Mwanza was elected vice-president.
Other members of the executive are Ms Sharon Maruta from FBC Reinsurance who was elected secretary, Mr Kudakwashe Nyere (FML), treasurer, Mr George Phiri (Heritage Life), examination officer, Mr Douglas Dzvene (Zimnat), education officer and committee members Mr Richard Nsukwini and Mr David Gumbo both from First Mutual.
