THE National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has donated 20 Kango pots and over 100 refreshments to the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s countrywide traditional meal cook-out competition.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, NRZ public relations manager Mr Nyasha Maravanyika said the donation was in line with the organisation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) investment programme and they were pleased to support the First Lady’s traditional meal cook-out competition designed to ensure people embrace traditional dishes and learn how to prepare them.

“We are pleased to donate to the First Lady’s traditional meal cook-out competition 20 Kango pots and 100 refreshments for the elderly citizens. We are happy to be involved in the programme where the elderly will be able to teach young people how to cook traditional dishes so that we improve our health.

“Our message is that as long as they are national programmes which help develop the country not only Bulawayo where we are head-quartered, we are also there to assist in such programmes throughout the country as long as they enhance national development, the lives of our people and communities. As NRZ we assist everyone.”

He said as part of the company’s CSR investment programme they also looked at health, education and vulnerable groups like the elderly, people living with disability and people with chronic illnesses or diseases.

“We thought we should help these old people so that the young people also learn a lot in terms of the traditional cooking competition dishes, as well as having the limelight in the presence of the First Lady of the country.

“This is not the first time we have supported this community of old citizens,” he said.

Mr Maravanyika said they have in the past assisted support old people’s homes with transport should they want to have trips and outings.
