Observer missions give thumbs up to Zim elections

 

OBSERVER teams from Sadc, African Union and Comesa have said Zimbabwe elections were generally free and fair and met both domestic and international standards.

Presenting their preliminary finding on the election in Harare on Wednesday, the observer missions noted that the elections were held in a peaceful environment with no major glitches.

The Sadc observer mission also noted that the elections largely conformed with domestic laws and the revised Sadc guidelines on elections The AU observer mission team said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission carried out its obligations as required by law.

Head of Comesa Election Observer team Ambassador Ashraf Gamal Rashed said there was a significant improvement in the general management of elections compared to previous elections.

He also commended security that was provided at polling stations as almost all polling stations opened in time with no glitches.

The announcements were made a few hours before ZEC announce the results of the Presidential election. Zec has already announced results of most National Assembly constituencies where Zanu PF won the majority of the seats.
