MASVINGO gospel artiste, Ratidzo Wekare has released three singles which are set to hit local radio stations this month.

Wekare said the three songs named, Emmanuel, Ndimi and Simukai Jesu were all inspired by the gospel verse in Luke 4 verse 18, which preaches to the poor about healing, deliverance and recovering.

Wekare said the three songs are themed on praise, faith and confidence in God.

Emmanuel is a mix of Shona and Ndebele and it preaches of God’s presence in our lives, Ndimi also talks of betrayal and rejection in society and urges people to have faith and confidence in the Lord, and Simukai Jesu is a hymn from Psalms 68.”

She added that her three singles are unique in various ways as compared to her previous works.

“As a gospel artiste I have grown up in the industry and have realised that gospel music is when we are preaching of the good news, that is the death, resurrection and salvation. We should desist from preaching our personal lives in gospel music but spread the gospel of Jesus Christ so that everyone will benefit from that gospel,” said Wekare.

The 30-year-old gospel musician, who started music in 2015 when she recorded her first album has received airplay on ZTV and local radios like, Hevoi FM, Midlands 98.4 and Yah FM stations.

“I started music in 2015 when I recorded my first album called Handiparare, and I recorded my second album in 2016 Timunamate and a singles collection called Anondidadisa, and I have received air play on ZTV and local radios like Hevoi fm, Midlands 98.4 and Yah FM stations” she said.

Wekare commented that artistes are facing challenges on exposure on airplay and geographical locations have a more negative impact. “As gospel artistes we are facing challenges when it comes to airplay we do not have exposure to national radio stations and the television, and this is also due to a geographical location as artistes in big cities have more exposure,” said Wekare.

Wekare won the Best Female Artiste award at the Masvingo Music and Arts Awards in 2018.
