AN elderly couple was burnt beyond recognition after robbers allegedly forced their way into their house, stole their belongings before setting their homestead on fire.
The heart-wrenching incident happened on Tuesday in Empandeni, Matebeleland South, police confirmed on Wednesday.
Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Philisani Ndebele said investigations were still ongoing.
“I can confirm that we have had report of such an incident but the information is still trickling in as of now and investigations as investigations are still ongoing,” he said.
Inspector Ndebele said police would release more information on the incident through the national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi either today or tomorrow.
Social media accounts the couple noted that the couple was in their house when the robbers ghosted in, robbed them then set their house on on fire.
Neighbours reportedly tried to put out the inferno but could not rescue the couple.
